Speeding increases the
distance necessary to bring a vehicle to a complete stop, reduces a driver's
ability to steer safely around curves and obstacles, and increases the distance
a vehicle travels while the operator reacts to unpredictable road conditions.
According to the National Center for Statistics & Analysis, speeding contributes
to thirty percent of all fatal crashes in the United States and has a $28
billion economic cost to Americans each year. As a result, lawmakers, lobbyists,
and government agencies have compiled databases of statistical information
addressing all aspects of this issue. A sampling of this information is
featured below.
